ARTISTIC METAL CEILINGS
Our line of Metal Ceilings consists of the most popular designs, all of which are strictly
up to date and are recognized as standard patterns, designed by one of the foremost designers of
art metal ceilings.
Metal ceilings are becoming more popular every day simply because the same rich effect
could not possibly be created with any other kind of material within ten times the cost. Metal
ceilings are appropriate for any kind of private or public building and are used to a great
extent in churches, schools, theaters, music halls, lodge rooms, stores, offices, and in dwellings
of all kinds.
Our patterns are new and original, all the patterns having been recently designed.
Compare our illustrations with other manufacturers’ designs, then note how deep our designs
are, because all patterns shown herein are made from entirely new dies which are perfect and
clean cut.
Compare our wholesale prices printed under each design and you will then see the big
saving we can make you on the highest class of artistic metal ceilings.
Metal ceilings take a very low freight rate. In most territories metal ceilings are shipped
as fourth class and the freight charges amount to very little. To illustrate how small the freight
charges will be: An order of 100 square feet of ceiling or side wall material crated ready
for shipment weighs about 65 pounds and is shipped as fourth class freight.
We pack our metal ceilings in a most careful manner and guarantee safe delivery to any
point in the United States.
RULES FOR MEASURING.
On each page, below the design number, we show the drop of cornice, and in figuring the
number of square feet of metal ceiling required to finish a room it is necessary to figure
enough extra to allow for the distance which the comice or border extends down the side walls
from the ceiling.
TO FIND THE NUMBER OF SQUARE FEET CONTAINED IN A CEILING.
1st — To the actual width of the ceiling add the size printed below the design you select;
this gives you the proper ceiling width.
2d — To the actual length of the ceiling add the size printed below the design you select;
this gives you the proper ceiling length.
3d — Multiply these two results (width and length) together and you have the area, or the
number of feet contained in the ceiling.
For example, we will take a square room 12x12 feet. The design we select has a cornice
with a 16-inch drop (see Figure 1). To the 12-foot ceiling we must add twice 16 inches, or
2 feet 8 inches (the drop of the cornice on both walls), which gives us 14 feet 8 inches for
each dimension. 14 feet 8 inches multiplied by 14 feet 8 inches equals the area, or 215 1-9
square feet. Make no deductions for any openings less than 75 square feet, as fitting around
openings is as expensive as covering them.

12 FEET
Fig. I.
In cases where the rooms are quite irregular it is better to send a drawing showing all
the measurements of the room, and we will have the actual number of square feet figured out
very carefully and tell you just what the ceiling will cost you before ordering, if you wish.
In reporting measurements for estimates both sides and both ends should be given, as
buildings are frequently out of square. For side walls be sure to locate doors, windows,
vestibules, chimneys or other offsets, if any.
Give the distance from the top of the doors and windows to the ceiling and from bottom
of windows to ti e door ; also give height of walls and baseboard.
When sending us your order be sure to give a drawing of the room, using the enclosed
order blank and giving all of the measurements necessary. When we ship the steel ceiling we
will send a regular detail drawing free of charge giving full instructions as to the way in which
to put up the ceiling. This drawing is made by our metal ceiling expert and shows the exact
location of every piece, so that there is no possibility of an error of any kind.
APPLYING THE CEILING.
With every metal ceiling we furnish free an accurate drawing or blue print showing the
exact location of every piece or sheet, making mistakes impossible.
The field should be applied first, then the cornice, nailing the cornice to side walls only
until mold, border or filler is applied.
DIRECTIONS.
Beginning at one corner, apply the ceiling or field plates across and along the room,
keeping the lapping edges running from the light. This is very important. Each piece should
be carefully lapped so the beads or ridges will be straight and true; the joints will then be
invisible. The plates should be nailed at about 6-inch intervals with small cone head nails.
Cone head nails are furnished with our ceilings without charge. Use a sharp punch for
making nail holes where there are more than two thicknesses of metal. The filler plate is
furnished in the proper width and placed under the sheet (molding or field) on the side away
from the cornice.
Close or swedge with a small dull tool any joints which may not have lapped tightly
owing to the lapping beads having been bent or flattened in applying.
FURRING STRIPS.
The following is to assist ceiling erectors in estimating the quantity of furring strips for
each 100 square feet of surface covered, the quantities representing the stripping for the field
portion only; additional to same the necessary quantity of strips for molding, filler and cornice
must be added. The size of molding, filler and comice is a determining factor in the quantity
required. (See prices below.)
Strips should be placed 24 inches on centers lengthwise and 24 inches on
centers crosswise, and when used in this manner one square of ceiling (that
is, a space 10x10 feet or 100 square feet) will require 100 lineal feet.
OUR GUARANTEE ON METAL CEILINGS.
While we guarantee to furnish the highest grade metal ceilings and side walls at the lowest
possible prices, guaranteeing the quality to be equal to or better than that from any other manu-
facturer, we cannot under any circumstances permit a steel ceiling or side wall to be returned
from our customers on account of their furnishing us the wrong dimensions. These ceilings
are cut to order and cannot be used excepting in the room for which they were originally
intended.
Our terms are net cash with order. The prices n>c quote are our lowest net wholesale
prices, from which there is no discount. These prices are based on the actual factory cost, with
only our one small profit added.
WE FURNISH FREE OF CHARCE with any pattern of metal ceilings or side walls
special cone head nails for applying the metal, also the wood brackets for molding and cornices.
Prices do not include furring strips or nails for applying furring strips. If wanted, be
sure to include same with your order. About 100 lineal feet of furring strips are required
for each square of metal ceiling.
SOFT WOOD FURRING STRIPS.
No. 63B3060 Size, I '/qx^g inches. Price, per 100 lineal feet 35c
No furring strips are required on sheathed or flat surfaces. No double furring is necessary

MEANING OF TERMS USED IN THIS CATALOG.
CORNICE, that part of the ceiling which drops down on the wall.
BRACKETS, wooden shapes cut to the same pattern as the cornice and used to hold the
cornice stiff and rigid. (Necessary brackets and nails are furnished without extra charge.)
ELLS are corner pieces used on a few designs of molding.
FILLER, that portion of the ceiling which is next to the cornice. 'l ou will see from the
above illustration that filler is plenty wide enough to permit the molding or field to overlap
the filler from 3 to 6 inches.
MOLDING is the strip between the field and the filler, or between field and cornice when
no filler is used.
BORDER PLATES, used only in the more elaborate styles of ceding and used between the
molding and field plates.
FIELD OR FIELD PLATES, central or mam portion of the ceding.
FURRING STRIPS, soft wood strips (size V&- 1^4 inches) which are nailed directly to the
walls and ceding and to which all joints of the ceding are nailed.
USE THE ENCLOSED ORDER BLANK FOR YOUR DRAWING.
Each square on the order blank represents one square foot.
Be sure to draw the exact outline of your ceiling and give all dimensions, as we need
accurate information in order to give you a correct estimate.
